Our
troop is sponsored by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and we meet there most Mondays
from 7:00-8:00. We do not usually meet the Monday after a campout or
for the month of July.
Campouts
One
campout a month is scheduled. Campouts include family float
trips, backpacking trips and other weekend trips such as the
Vicksburg Historic Hike and a night on the USS Kidd. District scouting
events such as the Iditarod and Camporee are also attended. One special
campout is our "Survivor" game (something like Capture-the-Flag, only
much more fun!) weekend at Garland Scout Ranch.
All webelos are invited to join us for this event. Parents are welcomed
and encouraged to attend any of these weekend campouts. Winter and
Summer camps are also a highlight of our year. Winter camp (Camp
Turkey) is always the weekend before Thanksgiving and is held at
Garland Scout Ranch. The summer camp that our troop attends varies from
year to year depending on the boy's interests.
Service Projects
Troop
10 sponsors the Road-Clean up along Flournoy Lucas near the church
three times a year. Also, we participate in the Scouting for Food
program.
Fundraisers
We only have one fundraiser
a year and that is our annual chicken dinner sale in March. This is a
major, all day event and takes a lot of work to pull it off. Proceeds
from the sale go toward purchasing camping equipment and other troop
needs. Every scout is expected to participate in this.
Parental Involvement
Our
parents play an extremely important role in ensuring the success of
troop 10. All parents are encouraged to attend our monthly PALS (Parent and
Leaders) meeting, where most of the decisions and planning take place. Leadership (contact any of these for more information)
